[00:00] Hello, partners. Welcome to the Prosperity Podcast. Today, we’re going to be sharing 10 charts that are showing the prosperity in the world around us. And some of these things are pieces that many of us may not see, realize, and it will, I think, help all of us be a lot more grateful. So they’ll be included in the show notes. Kim, I haven’t actually shared these with you, so you’re going to be finding out in real time. I love it. I’m super excited. This is something that Peter Diamandis shares from time to time, and I haven’t actually attended his event in the last few years, for obvious reasons. So I am delighted that you found this and can’t wait to talk about it. Wonderful. Okay, this is a Twitter thread.
[00:44] This comes from Romine Sheth, and I’m going to have the link in the show notes. Let’s start with the first one. The average life expectancy of people that were born in the 1950s in foreign countries was 41.5 years. This is him talking about his parents because he had his dad from Uganda, and his mom was from India, and her life expectancy of that timeline was 39.6. Now what is life expectancy, Kim? In the United States, it’s early 80s, depending on which government study you use. That’s double. Double, exactly. And even in these countries, like Uganda, India, others, we’re talking 70s. So they got an upgrade. How amazing is that? That’s so cool, and it’s so instructive. Second piece of prosperity here, second chart, child mortality.
[01:43] Not only was life expectancy extremely low, but child mortality was extremely high. If you were born 200 years ago, there was a 40% chance of dying by your fifth birthday. Quite different now. Yeah. Now, here, the next one is one you’re going to love, but it sounds like you had a comment on that one. Well, it’s because we know that intuitively, and we just sort of know, but when you get the specific statistics, it really drives it home. It does. It totally does. So this one will hit home for you big time. Literacy. Okay. The ability to read used to be reserved for kings and queens. Within America’s lifetime, worldwide literacy rates have nearly been flipped. In 1800, 85% of the world was illiterate.
[02:37] Because of 2020, 85% of the world is illiterate. Interesting. And yet, really, it’s still amazing that 15% is not. Yeah, that’s a lot of people to not be illiterate. Okay. Education. The last 20 years have been significant improvements in education. So right here, what we have, so how has access to primary education changed? Between 1999 and 2019, we have seen a gigantic surge in the access to education. And these numbers are all over the place. So instead of diving into those numbers, I remember many times on the podcast, you’ve talked about Khan Academy. You’ve talked about one of your favorite platforms out there, which is… Audacity. Exactly. Yep. The ability for us to read books, join newsletters, go to conferences, and I would say, if people
[03:36] are listening to the podcast, they’re tuning into education right there. That’s pretty amazing. It’s one of my favorite questions to ask people actually is, how do you learn best? Because there is a solution for it. You know, whether it’s typically either video, audio, or reading. Some people, of course, have really got to get their hands on things. It’s so cool that we can say to them, well, how do you learn best? Okay, you know, like, I won’t read a book, but I’ll listen to a book. Awesome. We have the podcast and we have all of our books on audibles. That’s such an amazing transition. That’s what, Spencer, just maybe 10 years old? That’s it. It really has. And so for all the people that didn’t like reading, I don’t know what they
[04:19] did before. I know it was a struggle. We’re grateful for all of you listeners. And again, in the show notes, we’ll tie this in and we’ll also add links to Kim’s books for any of you that happen to be readers as well as podcast listeners. All right. Number five, economic output. A more educated population continually creates more opportunities for the world. So this chart shows what’s happened to the world’s GDP over the last 100 years. It’s grown by 30 times, 30 times. That’s unreal. I love it. And output, I mean, that implies effort and work and some of the things that our society is a little sideways on these days, I think. They are, yes, certainly. But hopefully that changes up. We’ll see.
[05:11] We’re going to try and do our part. Number six, poverty. Incoming inequality is a real issue. We’ll need to make sure opportunities, not outcomes, are equitable as we go forward. So that said, even with this issue persistent today, overall poverty as a percentage of population has fallen off a cliff. So the people that have access to water, to electricity, to cell phones, totally changes the world. That’s so cool. I love to read Good News Network and pass it on, you know, other positive news. And there’s story after story of kids in these third world countries that are creating capabilities for electricity, which is a real game changer. Electricity and water, just amazing what that can do. That’s awesome.
[06:01] Absolutely. All right, number seven, democracy. Not only are people more educated, more wealthy and living longer, more of the world is living in the best political system for creativity, inclusion and capitalism. Wow. And the chart shows here, again, we’ll show that chart. And you know, this is the author, the Twitter author’s words. And on here, you know, we know that there’s kind of like a general undertone in certain communities where capitalism is looked at as bad now. I wouldn’t have guessed that five or ten years ago. It seems, you know, the schooling systems and others are starting to bring that up. Luckily, others are waking up and they’re turning to alternative media sources like this podcast to say, wait, that’s not true.
[06:50] So the chart, the words are the authors, but the chart are the statistics, right? Correct. Yes, correct. And we’ll have that inside of the show notes. So this is number eight. What it says is this, that the group is richer. All of us as an entire world, richer, healthier, smarter, and more represented. The problem with all of this, and this is the final wrap up, is that the perception is off. So depending on where you receive your news, when you’ve talked with families out there, which you do all the time, I would imagine that some of their perceptions are off about what prosperity means or what it means to create wealth or what kind of strengths and powers they have. What is the similar thread, if we’re taking this Twitter thread here, what’s the similar
[07:41] thread that you have observed from talking with people? Well, those that choose very carefully what they put in their minds, just as carefully as they choose what they put in their bodies and what they fill their space with, really can get different results. And that’s so awesome because that is such an easy shift to make, such an easy change to bring about in yourself or in your family. Just starting with the two easy ones, what food you put in your body and what stuff you put in your brain are amazing changes that you can make. All incremental improvements on and over 30 days notice a huge difference. Something that I’ve just started to do, and though I don’t look at any type of regular news, whatever I do look at, I’m very conscious of who the writer, author,
[08:38] speaker is, what their background is, looking at what agenda might they have. And so that really helps me take in some things that I may feel I need to learn, but then just be conscious of the source. Well, that’s really wise because every person out there has their own filter. And if we’re not careful, we’re going to start to adopt some of those filtering processes that they have. And pieces of those can be really harmful or it can be helpful, depending on how we go about that. Well, and we know that we are heavily influenced by those that we hang out with. And that’s something that sometimes people feel like, oh, well, you need to detour your friends if they’re negative. And I don’t actually feel that way.
[09:28] I just make darn sure that I’m very filled up with positive information before I go into an environment that I know might have negative information. And then I do everything that I can. And I truly feel like it’s part of my responsibility as a human being walking this earth to help people shift their perspective on things. And again, when it’s mindset orientation, okay, is probably a little harder. But when it’s mindset orientation, that’s so easy. Just tiny baby steps of pull the positive out, pull the good out. And it’s such an important thing to do. And I’m so grateful that we’re living at a time when people have become very clear that mindset matters. Absolutely. It does. And you know, we have this proof of all this prosperity around us.
[10:27] People are living almost double the length of life. They are reading more than they ever have. They have access to electricity, to water, to other items of prosperity. This world around us is so amazing. However, if we only program ourselves to watch the news and to do the things that everyone else is doing, it’s pretty easy to forget that. So I really want to thank everyone for listening to this podcast.
