[00:02] Hello, partners. In this episode, we’re going to be speaking about unbelievable thinking. And this is straight out of perpetual wealth. Kim, you’re the author of this. So we’re going to be asking you a ton of questions. I love this subject. And I’ve got to tell the backstory because I have had a PDF of unbelievable thinking for over 20 years. And I created it after hearing, I believe it was Brian Tracy, you know, could have been Tony Robbins, like in his early days, might have even been his mentor, whose name I’m blanking on right now. It was one of those, shall we call it classic mindset teachers who said that the word unbelievable was so perfect could it because it could be used in either a positive or a negative sense. So it goes

[01:05] like this. How’s business cam unbelievably awesome. I’m helping so many people. I’m so grateful. It’s fabulous. Or it goes like this. How’s business cam unbelievable. I’m dying. I’m scared. I’m fearful. Like either way, the word unbelievable works, right? It does. So I combined it with something that Dan Sullivan put out long, long time ago. And I don’t remember what two titles Dan used, because I converted them to poverty thinkers and prosperity thinkers, which are on on the PDF that goes in the book is what I want to say. And I don’t remember the titles he had. It doesn’t matter because I’ve completely changed everything up. But this is where I got this idea. I’ve been using it ever since. And as Spencer

[01:59] said, this is out of the perpetual wealth book. And towards the end of the show, we’ll tell what page it’s on because I’ll have figured it out by then. Perfect. Well, here’s my plan with this episode. And I think this would be really valuable for listeners. There are nine different subtopics of the poverty thinkers and prosperity thinkers. And I’m thinking, if we can do each one in about a minute, maybe some will be less, some will be more. That way, we’ve just gone in the ring and we’ve given a couple jabs. And then for all of our listeners that want to get more information, they can dive into the book. Sound like a plan. It does. And it’s on page 294. Excellent. Okay, perfect. We do have two columns here. On the left hand side, we

[02:46] have poverty thinkers. And on the right hand side, we have prosperity thinkers. So we enter in round number one, we’ve got poverty thinkers focus on cutting costs. And the prosperity thinkers is brainstorm ways to increase income. Kim, let’s throw in a couple of jabs and hooks there. So this happened to me in 2008 and 2009, right? The economy craters. And I am looking at our businesses and we’ve got issues. And I already know that we run pretty lean businesses. And I know that bookkeepers are an accountant’s mode of helping cash flow is to focus on cutting costs. And good heavens, where’s one of the first costs that go? It’s marketing costs. And then you have team member costs, employee salaries, but I don’t like the word employees, because none of

[03:42] our team acts like an employee. So I just thought, no, I am not going to spend any time combing through a whole bunch of costs in order to reduce things maybe by 10 or 15%. Instead, I’m going to brainstorm ways to increase income, to increase cash flow, to take every single asset that we have and see if we can create income with it, which means first figuring out how to provide more value so that the income increases. This is what prosperity thinkers do. And the cool thing is, you can be an employee and be a prosperity thinker. You can be a 13 year old kid and be a prosperity thinker. You can be someone that’s quote, retired, and please go back to work. Oh, sorry. And be a prosperity thinker. It’s such an awesome way to

[04:39] think. And that’s the important verb that we’re driving at here is brainstorm ways, turn your brain on and think about ways to increase income and cash flow. That’s so good. We’re going to jump to the next. But on number five, just so for all of you to listen, that’s one that plays out in our economy. Right now, you’re going to have to listen to it. But first, we have to go to number two. Okay. Poverty thinkers, which says reduce involvement, prosperity thinkers, which is work on self improvement, take it away. Okay, so here we have 2020, right? Everything gets shut down. And people want to just go like stay in bed all day, I guess. I don’t know. That didn’t happen to me. Our business was able to keep on going. And

[05:32] what the people that got out of bed and turned their eyes up and open and out into the world decided to do with their extra time was to work on self improvement. And it was so cool to hear the stories. People worked on better health, people worked on better relationships, people worked on internal aspects of who they are as a human being. Because there was no human doing that could occur there for a couple weeks for a lot of people. When you can’t be a human doing then be a human being and work on becoming a better human being. And this is what prosperity thinkers do all the time. I’m constantly working on areas of self improvement and attending events and learning and reading and growing. Because if we’re not doing this, we are

[06:29] dying. There is no such thing as maintenance in the human being game. That is so true. That’s you’re living or dying. There’s there’s no middle ground which takes us to our next one. Poverty thinkers stop dreaming. And prosperity thinkers set attainable goals. So I love the distinction between an attainable goal and a goal or more importantly for me, an attainable goal and a vision. So again, poverty thinkers are just gonna give up. And I’ve been there. And this is the cool thing. It’s not that you’re a prosperity thinker 100% of the time ever. Like if you are you’re probably going to ascend. So congrats. By the way, if you ascend, they’ll still pay your life insurance death benefit just so you know, I’ve checked. And when we get into

[07:26] poverty thinking, we stop dreaming, we stop getting our head up above the clouds and seeing out there in the future. And so this is the distinction that I want to make as a prosperity thinker, you focus on setting attainable goals, which are typically in the short term, the goal acronym SMART, specific, measurable, achievable, realistic, and with the timeframe. Those are attainable goals. That’s what the A stands for. Achievable, attainable, same thing. And you create visions. Visions are not goals. Visions are those dreams that are out there that are in the future that don’t have any specificity around them. In fact, they might be seriously fuzzy. And they’re probably not measurable. And they may or may not be achievable because

[08:10] you might actually get something better. And they’re not realistic. That’s the whole point. And they don’t have timeframes. So visions are where we start. And this is why I love the term vision here. I love the action verb that’s oriented around there. And stepping back, I know that it’s important to set attainable goals. So whether it’s a day or a year, I think that’s kind of the timeframe that goals should be. Set some, write them down, start working on them. Okay, so our next one, and no, we’re at number, we’re not at number five yet. We’re on number four. So the next one, poverty thinkers decrease motivation. Prosperity thinkers celebrate baby steps. Yeah, so it’s easy when you’re scared to become

[08:58] demotivated or to have any motivation that you have just die on the vine. And I get it. I’m there sometimes. And so the only way that I know out of that is to not only pick some baby steps or tiny habits, you and I’ve talked about this been the BJ fog book, tiny habits. That’s what baby steps are. And so when we celebrate baby steps, that’s when progress gets made. And that’s when our motivation gets picked back up. And this is why the goals on the shorter term are so important, because we can break them down into those smaller baby steps. And even if it’s two baby steps forward, and one baby step backwards, or it’s pivoting, or whatever it is, finding the ways to celebrate those. And of course, celebration is

[09:49] going to have a different definition for everybody. And tiny steps should have tiny celebrations. And that’s the new book Spencer tiny celebrations. It’s not tiny habits. It’s tiny celebrations. And this is what helps you then take more baby steps. And that is what helps you get results. Because it’s never one big thing. People ask sometimes like, what was the one big thing that you did that made your practice so awesome? Ah, never one big thing. Millions of baby steps, millions. So true. You know, I’m going to add in one point there, the people that ask what was the one big thing. If a person has an answer to that, then there’s always going to be a parallel answer, parallel answer to what caused it all to go away.

[10:33] Because the lottery winners were quick to success means that it’s quick to go. Yeah, so true. Because no education comes along with it. Yes, that’s true. Okay, so the tease is over. This is number five. Here we go. I picked this one because I think it is most important for our world and the economy right now. And it’s applicable at all times. But I think right now where we are, this is something that a lot of people are talking about. Poverty thinkers hoard cash. Prosperity thinkers keep money moving. This is critical. I agree. And this goes back to my very early days, when I transitioned from being a typical financial planner, where I was taught to hoard cash, to being a prosperity economics advisor, where I realized that the

[11:23] velocity of money or the movement of money is how the world works. And so we need to apply that knowledge to our own personal finances. So to go a little deeper, all typical financial planning is hoarding cash. It’s hoarding cash in 529 plans for education, 401k and 403 b pounds for retirement, whatever, you know, irrevocable life insurance trust for estate taxes, whatever level of the game you’re playing, hoarding cash is the name of the game for all typical financial planning, mostly because typical financial planners are paid for asset center management. And if you don’t hoard your cash in their locale, they cannot charge you. And so the hoarding of cash is also taught by all of the financial

[12:09] institutions because they want you to hoard your cash in their vaults, sometimes literally, or sometimes figuratively. And yet, that’s not what financial institutions do. Financial institutions keep money moving all the time, a bank is constantly bringing money in lending it out, bringing it in, lending it out, or an insurance company is taking in premiums and then investing or paying dividends, and the mortgage brokers, you know, same thing, you don’t ever buy a mortgage and sit with it for 30 years, they’re selling their mortgages all the time. And so this is how our economy works, money is moving. And when it doesn’t move, like happened in 2020, and happened in 2008 2009, we see the utterly detrimental impacts of money not moving on our

[13:01] worldwide economy. Well, what makes us think that our personal economies are any different. And so learning how to move money through assets is one of the most important skills in building perpetual wealth, the name of the book that we now have out that this PDF is page 294 of and if you don’t know how to do that, then please please dig in and start to learn because I talk about the movement of money and every single one of the books. And you and I’ve talked about it on numerous podcasts. So here’s a thought, if we use and adopt the prosperity thinkers thinking, you know, unbelievable thinking patterns here, and we get the money moving, is it possible that we can take our uncertainty and flip that to

[13:52] certainty? I think so because and I love the use of your word choice. Because when cash flows, as an example, that’s one example of money moving, then we can be more certain with our lifestyle. When money is dead, you know, it’s like water, just think about water that’s dead is literally sick water, like it’s not healthy water, right? It gets slime and algae in it. And our money is no different. So if we can become more certain about the ways that we invest our dollars for cash flow, not net worth, about the way that we save our dollars at insurance companies instead of at banks, then we get that certainty. And then once that money is got that foundation of certainty, then we can add on the strategies that keep the money moving.

[14:52] So good. So there you go, listeners, for any type of economic cycle situation. Kim has just laid out a recipe that’s pretty helpful. So here we go. Poverty thinkers paralyze their decision making process. prosperity thinkers trust that crisis is equal opportunity. Yep, it’s super easy to get paralyzed. And I’ll tell you that one of the quickest ways out of it is gratitude. And the other quickest way out of it is talking, speaking like with your voice frees you from paralysis. So if it’s me that you need to speak with, then get on my calendar and make it happen. If it’s a spouse that you need to speak with and make it happen. If it’s a group of other entrepreneurs or what have you join strategic coach or get more

[15:45] engaged in whatever it is, if it’s your church, then get a group together on zoom or go physically back since the world is now opening back up, go back to church speak, it will remove your paralysis. And then the correlating aspect of that is that when there is crisis, there is opportunity. Warren Buffett has an awesome saying about blood in the streets or something that I won’t try to quote. And it’s so amazing that there is always opportunity. Dolph de Roos says the deal of the decade comes along once a week. I got to listen to Tom Wheelwright and Robert Kiyosaki last week at an event and they were talking about the amazing opportunities that they are becoming prepared for right now here in the middle of 2021 as we record this. And so it

[16:36] is something and notice that the word is trust, trust that crisis equals opportunity. So if you’re not seeing it that way, then more learning is required. And there are lots of sources that I just rattled off that you can turn to, to get the speaking going that then will create the opportunity. And you’ll want to trust that process. Oh, yes. Okay. The next one is poverty thinkers hold back constantly and prosperity thinkers move forward in some form. Yeah, this is a fun one. It’s kind of a combination of the baby steps and keeping money moving. And I find that our physical bodies and our minds are the same way. So it’s super easy when things are scary, to go into poverty thinking, which is, hold back, hold back, hold back, say

[17:29] no, say no, say no, don’t commit, don’t spend, don’t invest, etc. And that’s just not a way forward. I mean, holy cow, did we not see that no matter what is going on in this world, that 2020 inched forward day by day, hour by hour, minute by minute, completely irrespective of what else was going on, you know, the the world couldn’t even shut the world down when no planes were flying. And we saw this after 911 too. So it is so important to find a way to move forward, even if it’s in the wrong direction, because pretty clearly get redirected. And so whether it’s literally, and when I get stuck, I love to go out and walk, because I’m moving forward that way. So it might be literal moving forward. Or maybe it’s I remember another time when I

[18:25] was so scared about something I don’t remember when I this wasn’t like a worldwide economic thing. I don’t remember what’s going on in my life. But I was so scared about something. And I donated $25 to kiva.org. Because I just felt like I had to move forward in some form. And, and that was what I could handle at the time, I was pretty young. And kiva.org, I think maybe had just come online or something. And so it was $25. Who cares? It didn’t matter. It could have been $25 million. What was important is that I found a way to move forward. So good. All right. Only two left on the list. Some of these we you’ll notice that we’ve tied in to it already. So poverty thinkers complain, prosperity thinkers give

[19:10] gratitude. So if you haven’t checked out the complaint free world information before, I don’t know what will Bowen’s current business model is. So this might not even be easy to find. I haven’t looked in a while. But he has a book called Complaint Free World. And it’s the most amazing story. And I’m just crystal clear that complaining is such a way into the depths of nothingness. It is it’s just not something that you want to do. And will does give you a couple things that you can complain about and how to complain about them properly. So understand it’s it’s not like a total black and white area, there’s definitely some areas of gray. The fact is that people that are in poverty complain, and people that complain are in poverty.

[20:02] Let me say that again, people that are in poverty complain, and people that complain are in poverty. And so even if you might not feel like you’re in the definition of poverty, according to what the US government says, or what have you, you’re in poverty in your relationships, if you’re complaining about them, you’re in poverty about your work environment or the business that you own, if you’re complaining about them. And it’s not a fun thing to realize. And when you become attuned to it, it’s so drastic that you just want to run when somebody is complaining. Now again, like I said, go check out Wilbo and stuff and figure out how you can complain when there’s a legitimate thing that somebody can actually do something

[20:42] about. And then the corollary to that is, of course, to give gratitude, give gratitude, give give give gratitude and the idea that you can literally find the good and anything, even what appears to be the worst possible situation that old silver lining in the cloud is present. Dig, dig through your own thoughts, dig through the mental rubble. Maybe it’s physical rubble that you’re dealing with and find the good things and then give gratitude for those good things because a mind that is 100% focused on giving gratitude cannot complain. If this doesn’t fire us all up, I don’t know what will. This is good. Well, thank you. It’s so fun to talk about. Now we’re going to wrap up with the final item

[21:36] on the list. So poverty thinkers seek outside approval. Prosperity thinkers build internal confidence. Yes. So there’s a social media documentary on Netflix, I think that’s like social, I think is what it’s called. And there’s a sweet little girl that puts a selfie up and gets a bunch of likes and she’s all happy. And then somebody says, oh my gosh, you have big ears and it craters her perspective of herself. And it’s so vivid in my memory. I saw it three months ago, but I literally, if I could draw it all out, I could draw it right out for you right now, like exactly how the picture looked and everything. And it’s so clear to me that outside approval is such a false sense of certainty, such a false sense of love, such a false sense

[22:28] of approval and acceptance and absolutely the most scary thing to be focused on. So what do we do instead? We want to build internal, humble confidence that we can self generate internal, humble confidence that self generated can be turned on at your desire so that, and again, it’s humble self confidence. So we’re not obnoxiously overly confident. That’s not enjoyable at all. Instead we have an internal sense of who we are as human beings, that we can express love, receive love and act with love. And I mean like love with a capital L. I’m not just talking like a relationship love, but like a broader sense of it. And we, with that humble confidence can help others express and receive and focus on what

[23:31] is going on within themselves also, because that is where all change occurs and that’s where all good occurs and is absolutely something that we should be focusing on because it is the only thing that we can control 100%. What an episode. That was good. That was great. In fact, I love that. In fact, I’m going to change the word and say unbelievable. There we go.
