[00:01] Hello, prosperity thinkers out there. We are so grateful for you because today we’re going to be delivering some news that may be sad to those that are not in this community. We’re going to be telling them that easy cash doesn’t exist. Can you believe that, Kim? Yes, because somebody very wise has said that there is nothing worthwhile in life or something like that. I’m butchering the quote. And yet so many people are seeking easy cash. And I think that we need to call this out. And yet at the same time, I feel like the work that I do every day is easy. So what’s the difference there until I answer my own question? Why not? Right? So to me, the difference is that when most people say easy cash, I think they’re
[00:56] literally looking for the lazy person’s approach. They are not wanting to own their own abilities, their own life, their own strengths and skills and gifts that were given to them. Lewis Howes has a great quote. You were given two hands, one to serve yourself, one to serve others. I hadn’t ever. He probably hijacked that from somewhere. I hadn’t ever heard it though. So I’ll give him the credit. And it’s such a great reminder that when we find work we love, first of all, it no longer seems like work. And second of all, because we love it, then we could call it easy cash. But the idea that we’re going to just sit on a beach somewhere and not serve anybody and expect money to just come in from these
[01:49] supposedly, quote, passive investments, which is, I realize I’m being unpopular here. I mean, it’s a really big thing out on the web these days. And there are certainly some investments that do that. And yet, I think, when we seek things that are easy, when we seek the idea that we don’t need to serve, or that we’re at a point in our life where we’ve served enough, I think it’s really heading us down the wrong road. Dan Sullivan has a funny saying, I give death no assistance. And I truly believe that if you feel like you’re, quote, done serving or if you feel like, oh, I want all my income to be passive, I don’t want to work for it anymore. I truly think you’re giving death assistance. I agree. I absolutely agree
[02:39] with that. And I think, you know, it’s what’s being portrayed on TV, what’s being portrayed on social media. And the challenge with that is, you know, it’s not attractive to be sharing the hard parts of work. You know, you’re just seeing the end of the results. Then maybe that’s why people get a little bit delusional. Yes. And I’m not going to pretend that my work is 100% full of joy and ease. Yet once you do cross over that magical 10,000 hours that Malcolm Gladwell came up with in terms of genius level effect, it took genius level effort to get there. So I think once you cross over the 10,000 hours, it definitely becomes easier. But then you want to keep getting better also. And the world has shifted. The society has shifted. The way people want to
[03:40] do business has shifted. And so this is what I love about business. Business is there to solve problems. And so if we’re going into life with a, I don’t want any problems, I don’t want to have to work hard, then we’re going to get the results of that kind of thinking, which is a very flatlined experience. Again, this is a little abrupt, but even trending towards death, I guess you could say, because it is not a way to live that is sustainable, that is going to get you any good results long term, totally no big deal for short term. And this is one of the reasons why we take vacations and why we have weekends and why we have the ability to take a break and get rejuvenated so that we can come back and go
[04:34] to work and not be seeking the easy way out all the time. **Matt Stauffer** So true. You know, you’re reminding me of another podcaster and media host out there, Mike Rowe. He was the host of the TV show Dirty Jobs. And I really love what Mike says about Dirty Jobs and how it changed his life. In fact, I was watching an interview recently with him. He said the show impacted him more than he realized. So what happened was he was in his forties and he was a struggling actor and he was actually a musician. He sang opera. Think of that, of all things. And so he was presented with this career opportunity to do Dirty Jobs. And he realized quickly that he was getting to tell the stories of people that were doing hard work, un-applauding work or whatever that may be,
[05:33] but they loved it and they made an impact. And the phrase we’ve all heard, you know what people say, oh, work smart, not hard. And that phrase is false. That’s something that none of us should aim for. What we want to do is we want to work smart and we want to work hard. And that’s what that show did. And so this episode here, Easy Cash, is very much in tune and what’s happening in our world right now is at least because the markets may at this time of recording be doing really well. And the truth is all boats rise with the tide. And so everyone seems like an expert, like they’re doing great. It’s when it gets really challenging when the people that have put in the work show forth. Well, it’s so interesting when you look at the various ways out there to develop cash flow,
[06:31] which we’ve absolutely supported and presented and commented on and given ideas about. And there’s nothing wrong with seeking what is typically called passive income from lump sums of money to get your basic expenses paid. But I always ask the question, and then what? So, okay, great. You have your expenses paid and then what? You are as a human being put on earth for a purpose and you have gifts and those talents are going to serve you so much better when they’re of use and being put to use. And for some of us, that is absolutely hard work because it takes hard work to get hard results and those are the good results. And so this societal thing that we’ve got going on and it’s really no different than retirement is a very, I think I’m going to even
[07:35] say dangerous lens to think about our last podcast that we did a week ago with which to be seeking things through because it’s a false premise. It’s advertising gone wrong. Oh, here’s the happy couple and they’re just going on the boat every day and they’re just fishing every day and they’re just golfing every day or whatever the picture is. And that is not what life is made up of. And so when we’re seeking easy, we’re going to get easy results. When we seek hard, we’re going to get hard results. And you could liken it to physical workouts. I mean, we all know I’ve been through this. I’m just going to go into management mode or maintenance mode on my physical workouts. Well, there is no such thing. That’s going backwards and it’s no different with our eating habits.
[08:33] It’s no different with our work habits and our whole lives are just made up of these little habits. So they start in our thought. And when you are pursuing something, really check your thinking because that’s going to then flow through to your actions and the words that you use and the choices that you make and all of those little habits, then create the life that you live. And so if you feel like I’ve got this down, I love my work. It’s still in growth mode. Awesome. Awesome. Please help others be in it also. And if you feel like you’re struggling, then do the self-work or get help because for all things, we know that we can get help a lot. If we get help, it’ll move a lot quicker. We’ll get the results a lot quicker if we get help
[09:25] in identifying what some of those gifts are, what the purpose is of your life, how you can help others because within that is such a growth oriented, happy feeling of success that we all have experienced when completing hard work. There’s so much wisdom in there, Cam. That was great. When you’re going through a time when it just feels like you’re hitting a rhythm and things are going well, how do you put things into the reserves for when times are going to get tough? It’s a great question. I think monetarily, that’s an awesome time to put literal cash into reserves so that when times go tough, you can keep your life moving forward and you can possibly even invest, especially in business and marketing and the things that
[10:23] we know get us results. But then also, back to the idea of vacation and downtime, when things are going well and things can be maybe a bit on autopilot and that aspect is happening or appears to be happening without a lot of pushing, that’s a time to be looking for what is the next area of growth. Without a doubt, being grateful for what’s there and the good that’s occurring. And yet also, there are just little aspects of things that we could improve or to make even better. Maybe they’re doing great, but could we make them even better to enable ourselves to build up a reserve of not only cash, but of time and of activity level and of mental space, et cetera, that then sets us up for that next thing.
[11:24] The question that we talked about earlier with investments and then what is very apropos for what’s going on in life as well. This is an awesome time and then what? This is a challenging time and then what? That’s a lot of wisdom there. I think if anyone that’s listening to this podcast, it’s easy to skip some of the moments that may have been really difficult because we’re thinking like a prosperity people. We want to oftentimes skip those really difficult times and just glean from the times that things have worked. And also at times when we’re extremely prosperous, it’s easy to forget how life can be difficult. And then what is something really helpful? That’s a wonderful framework for all of us to start sharing and
[12:16] using. It definitely inches you forward, which is what life is all about because we cannot be flatlining. We cannot be in maintenance mode. We want to be inching forward. We all saw in the year of 2020 how the calendar kept rolling. The earth shifted every single day, a little bit forward, a little bit forward. And so that’s what we want our lives to be doing as well. Perfect. So listeners, you may be saying, okay, and then what? And I’m going to say, make sure you are following the podcast so that every single week you’re getting a new episode. And then what?
