[00:01] Welcome to the Prosperity Podcast. Prosperity thinkers, we’re celebrating a date that’s coming up very soon, 3-25-25. It means something of a lot of hard work, dedication, intention. I’m not gonna do a drum roll and then have the microphone blast everyone’s ears. What is it? Our 11th book will be on Amazon on 3-25-25. So we’re very excited about this and we need to thank our podcast listeners because they helped us with the URL, the website address that is going to be used and it’s not live yet, but it will be very soon because we asked if it should be busting the scarcity mindset singular or mindsets plural and the vote came in and it is mindset singular. So that will be the URL and we’re looking forward to having some bonuses
[01:01] for pre-ordering ready on that page. Kristen Huygens, the co-author of this book, Busting the Scarcity Mindset, has been a joy to work with. Her company is actually called Joyful Communications and we’ve had a lot of fun writing the book. That’s awesome. So why is it mindset versus mindsets? What do you think it is? What is it that pushes that over the edge? Well, that’s what the listeners thought that it should be and a very specific quote from my son, Robbie, was keep it simple. Another quote that came in from one of the voters was like all of your other books and so I think there’s a lot to be said for simplicity, consistency. I mean, these are things we want with our money too, right? So here we’re talking about mindset
[01:56] but it is gonna be a plural example. So of course it develops mindsets. Nevertheless, let’s just drill down and acknowledge it for the simple thing that it is, which is your thinking, which is of course why we named our company Prosperity Thinkers when we did our rebrand quite a few years back because that thinking is so important. It affects everything in our lives and it is uber critical that we not have scarcity thinking going on and yet we do. So what do we do about it? And that’s what the book covers. Excellent. Do you have a couple of stories that you used that you wouldn’t mind sharing with us or maybe there’s something that didn’t make the book that you wanna share, one of those two?
[02:48] Well, it’s fun for you to ask that question. So there is a story that I’ll share that started the book actually and is in someone else’s book. So Dan Sullivan, my long time coach and Ben Hardy have a book called Gap and Gain. And in that book, Ben tells a story of me as a college age soccer player. I went to a small school but we did have a very good women’s soccer team and we played division three, NCAA soccer. And we had a coach that recommended that when we lost a game or if we had a bad situation in a game, like maybe somebody took a shot and missed or whatever, that we give ourselves five minutes to be frustrated, mad, crying, upset, whatever word you want. And that was it. So for example, we would get on the bus after a game
[03:48] and if we had lost, he would set his timer and he would say, okay, five minutes. And there were literally girls crying. It’s a girl thing, I guess. And then there were other people that were mad. Everybody dealt with the loss in their own way for five minutes. And then that was it. And then we would sing a song, do a chant, have a gratitude session, point out all the good that did happen in the game, point out all the learnings, like whatever it is that you do, of which we’ve talked about on some previous podcasts, to shift your mental framework, kind of hard to shift physical when you’re sitting on a bus. Nevertheless, that mental framework shift enabled all those other things to adjust and you can pull out the learnings.
[04:37] You can get into that prosperous mindset where you are looking at a situation for the good that is there. And I have used that skill ever since. First off, I didn’t know you were a D3 soccer player. And our team even won the division one year. I didn’t know that. Wow. Okay, I would imagine you’re probably gonna get some emails, people like, Kim, what? Like, why are you hiding this talent? Like, we didn’t know this. No, that’s actually pretty cool. Okay, so you learned that, obviously you had some of those skills even before you were playing soccer, the mindset skills, it had to be there. And could we take it back to, our listeners know that you earned your money milking cows early in the morning.
[05:35] So like a lot of hard work. You said something that was, because I know you well, you said something that was really funny. You said, yeah, of course, some of the girls were like crying and just look at these girls, like, why would these girls do this? And I would imagine it’s, here’s where I’m going out on a limb. I would imagine it’s because you’re like, well, in order for me to have got to college, I had to get kicked by cows for years. And then I had to get rejected with all these other things. And so losing a game didn’t really matter. Is that safe to say? It’s so true. There’s another funny story as it relates to animals in my childhood. I showed pigs also in 4-H and you show a pig with a cane,
[06:20] like a person would walk. That’s literally what you use. You tap on their nose, left, right, stop forward, basically are your choices and go right forward back, I guess. Well, for whatever reason, I had a pig that absolutely would not do anything once I got into the show ring, but stand in the corner. It is a death sentence because what you’re supposed to do in the show ring is take your pig in a circle. And what could I do? I mean, there’s an entire crowd watching. There’s 20 other pigs nicely going in the circle. There’s the judge in the middle. I mean, you gotta just chill and realize that, you know what? This show, you’re not gonna get a blue ribbon. And I’m sure there were numerous other circumstances,
[07:07] but that one stands out. But you are right. I had a series of daily events on the farm growing up that enabled me to deal with things like a lost soccer game. Yes. So for you listeners, Scarcity, the book that will be coming out soon is going to help you understand that there are people that have gone through a lot of hard stuff and you can learn from their lessons and their experiences, or you can repeat it yourself. I’ve always found it’s a lot less painful to learn from someone else. So I look forward to reading the book and thank you for sharing these additional stories about you helps us to get to know you, Kim. So thank you. Thank you for listening to the Prosperity Podcast.
