[00:01] Welcome to the Prosperity Podcast. Prosperity thinkers, welcome to the podcast. We’re going to be talking about some examples that came from the book Busting Scarcity Lies because the book has now been a success. It’s out. We even have an AI audible version, which is super cool. And now we have real life case study stories. So Kim, you had one just from this morning. So share that and then I’ve got one and I’m sure the listeners have a bunch as well. Absolutely. Well, I was going for my walk and talking with a good friend who said, I’m going to have a stepson in my home this summer and I am not happy about it. And I listened for a little while and then I said, so let’s just do a complete 180 on this idea.

[01:01] How you go into the summer is going to set the tone for everything. And it’s going to be so easy for us to flip our mindset right now today about the opportunities that you will have this summer and all the cool things that can occur with this additional adult, young adult in your home. And she was like, well, that was easy. I mean, all it took was just a three minute conversation and just being aware that I can either go into this with frustration and feeling like I’m going to be upset and expect that it’s going to be bad. In which case, those are the results I’m going to get. Or I can go into this with an open mind, an uplifted opportunity, knowledge that I’m going to make a big difference for this kid and get those results instead.

[02:01] And it was literally a five minute conversation. And now she’s set for an even better summer. Oh, I love it. That’s so good. Five minutes to turn around what will be impact for an entire summer and really an entire life. Yeah. Yeah, that’s cool. Mine came from my son, Michael. It was so weird. Scarcity thoughts happen in weird ways. So this was a weird one. And I guess being more vulnerable sharing this and that way it helps. But I was talking with him and he’s been making YouTube videos and he enjoys it and it’s still small that he’s learning, but he’s getting tens of thousands of views. So it’s not something huge. And he goes, yeah, I think I enjoy it, but you know, like, I don’t want to just

[02:53] like, you know, do a ton of them or everything because I’ll get burnt out. And I go, what do you mean? And he goes, I don’t know. I mean, it’s like if, you know, if you liked guitar and, you know, you wouldn’t want to play like all the time because then you’d maybe only play all the time for like five days. And then you’d get burnt out wouldn’t play anymore. And it’s like, huh, and I just asked a couple of follow up questions. I’m like, I’d never considered that, you know, again, I could get it with like cookies, like I’m not going to eat a dozen cookies because I love them that I would get sick of, but if I found something guitar or something I enjoyed, I don’t know about, you know, you and I know me

[03:41] we’re both entrepreneurial when we find something, we go all in and then we fill ourselves up and then that means we do more. So I had to walk him through that. And he’s like, that’s a scarcity belief. And he’s like, oh yeah, it just, they’re so small, they creep up. So one, if you’re not in the situation where you’re walking with your neighbor or friend or someone and helping them through that, one of the things that you are doing is you’re listening to others. Do you practice? Do you say, Oh, here’s how I would look at it. Or what are little things that, that you’re seeing now as your antennas are up, since you’ve just written this book, what was that? See that. Well, you said it. Well, it is amazing.

[04:29] The type and the frequency of scarcity thoughts that occur. And for somebody like Michael at his age, he hasn’t had enough life to find the thing that is that love that he could actually do so long and get more energy by doing it, not get worn out, yet it is just so important that we be uber aware and hyper vigilant about the scarcity thoughts, the various types and ways that they show up, which is literally endless and that we not be afraid of them, that we know that we have the capability to catch them and to turn them around. And so it’s like any habit. If we just start working on it a little bit, there’s never going to be a silver bullet or at least they’re typically isn’t a silver bullet, but there is a little habit and a little habit and a little

[05:32] habit stacked up together that will start to shift the way that you think, shift the way that you listen to your own thinking and cause you to be able to catch those before they get in there and fester. And I really liken the scarcity thinking to the complaining world because holy cow in America, do we love to complain and I get it every now and then it is appropriate to get something off our chest, so to speak. Although I really pity the person that has to listen to that. Yeah. So I make sure if I ever am in that position that I keep it super short, kind of like in my gap and gain story in the Dan Sullivan book, where our soccer coach gave us five minutes to complain. So I needed to do something like that then, or five minutes to be upset or

[06:27] whatever word you want to use. It’s five minutes, right? Max, maybe one minute is better. Get it done and get it over with and then, and just then start attacking each individual complaint with a very specific opposite environment. And okay, if something needs to be dealt with, then yes, complain, but complain to a person that can help you deal with it. Otherwise it is just complaining. If it’s talking to somebody about something that’s wrong that can help get the thing fixed, that’s not complaining. That’s solving a problem. But the scarcity mindset often associated with the complaint is where we need to be careful. And I think Tony Robbins has got a quote that’s floating out about these days, which is something to the effect of check your

[07:13] expectations and focus on appreciation instead. And so that’s such an important thing to be aware of is, you know, for example, I go into a restaurant. I expect good service. I don’t get good service. Well, let’s just be grateful that we got hot food or that we got service, period, you know? I mean, there’s just some elements in there where we can flip the complaint game and turn it into the gratitude game, which is going to get us so much better results, so much more of a happier experience and really help us bust those scarcity lies because the scarcity lies are the complaints and the complaints are full of the scarcity mindset or the scarcity lies. And it’s literally every day. It’s literally every hour.

[08:02] We should get so good at this so fast because we have so much opportunity with which to work on it. So let’s be working on it. Certainly. You know, philosophy, I am trying to do, and I can’t say that I do it perfectly because it’s every day. But the philosophy that I’m making an effort is this. If I find fault in someone else or in something, I pretend that I am a mirror and I say, where can I improve myself? And if I do that, one, that’s where I have responsibility. And two, it just smooths out those rough edges. It makes me a little bit better. And maybe in five years, when we do an episode, I’ll tell you how I’m a little bit more enlightened. I’m still working on it. Kim, this was really good.

[09:00] And one, thank you for helping turn it around for others with the book, with the words that you have. But two, the other thing is this. It’s an everyday thing. So for you listeners, if you haven’t grabbed a copy, make sure you do so. I purchased a copy. I have it, read it. It’s amazing. It’s really good. Lady from, is it Mary Ann? Who’s, who did the, used an excerpt at the beginning of the church? Mary Kate. What’s her name? Mary Baker Eddie. Mary Baker Eddie. Yeah. I didn’t remember her full name, but I do remember the impactful full word and those words in there. Absolutely essential from the beginning to the end. Listeners check it out. We’ll put a link to the book inside of the show notes.
