[00:01] Welcome to the Prosperity Podcast. Prosperity Thinkers, this episode is about batteries included, brains on. Kim, this is something you said a couple of times. I wrote it down because I’m thinking, does this mean I have some ideas? But we’re going to the thought creator, you. You came up with this, so unpack it for us. Well, I love them together. And so I heard the batteries included from Dan Sullivan long, long, long time ago. And interestingly enough, it was in relation to relationships. He was talking about him and Babs Smith, his wife, and how they were both batteries included people. In other words, they came to the relationship with energy and purpose. They also went about various aspects of their lives with energy.

[01:04] And an opposite example, just to flesh this out a little bit. I was standing in a particular place, doesn’t really matter where. I noticed some people about the same age as Dan and Babs. So mid 80s, walk, or early 80s, I forget exactly, walk into the room and they clearly had left their battery packs at home. Or maybe they were like, not even charged anywhere, I don’t know. But it was so obvious to me the look on their face, the way that they moved their bodies, the purpose or lack of that they brought to the table. And so Dan has just always talked about how valuable his relationship is with Babs because it’s she’s got batteries included. So that causes him to have batteries included, which means the relationship has batteries

[01:53] included. And I’ve taken this to just every work environment, every relationship that I have. Work is relationships too. Clients that I love are all batteries included. Some people that way naturally, others work at it. And I think everybody has to work at it occasionally. We’ve all had our bad days where we’re just maybe physically or mentally not feeling great. Sometimes you gotta just pack on the batteries whether you like it or not. Other times there are circumstances where it’s right to check out and go do what you need to do to get yourself better. But a lot of times it’s just a mental choice. And then I find that once we’ve made that mental choice of turning the battery pack on and really bringing energy to whatever it is that we’re doing, then we end up

[02:43] feeling better anyway if it was a physical thing that caused us to be a little bit of sluggish. That’s the batteries included part. OK, so you you picked up and one that all business people are going to realize is that it’s all relationships based. So you connected those two and you clearly have articulated that when we are in a situation like we’re bringing that energy or we’re taking it away in some circumstances, I’m going to call it rare in my book, at least, do we need to check out? But the meaning totally check out and like, oh, I have to take a mental health day. I hate that name. That’s just me. But battery packs have to be recharged. So what does battery pack recharging look like to you so that battery pack

[03:39] stays healthy? So important. So this is also a Dan Sullivan term. And that’s the concept of free days where you have midnight to midnight, 24 hours of uninterrupted space. Now, when you have young children, this is tough. But let’s listen to the second definition of a free day. And that is no business activity. And so it is so imperative that we protect our energy levels and we take a day or two or three a week where we have no business activity so that on those other days we are able to bring batteries included to the business activity because the whole mental health day thing, which I also have an issue with, is because people are not preparing themselves the weekend before. The job of the weekend is not to, quote, de-stress from the past

[04:39] week. The job of the weekend is to prepare yourself for the week in front of you, which means you get the proper rest and you do whatever it is that you need to do. You know, some people need more social time. Some people need more alone time. Some people need something entertaining. Some people need quiet and out of doors. Figure out what it is for you so that you can show up batteries included. And, you know, in the United States, there’s something rather magical about Monday, but depending on your business, it doesn’t have to be Monday. Whenever it is, you are batteries included because you’ve done the preparation ahead of time. Absolutely. So we’ve got the batteries included. What is brains on?

[05:25] You connected these two together. Brain on is that you are focused and very purposeful about the task at hand. Now, I absolutely can be the queen of multitasking. However, when something is very important, like I’m listening to a client or I’m talking with you on our podcast, my brain is on. I am actively engaged. And if it’s listening, it means I’m remembering the ratio of two ears to one mouth. I’m not interrupting. I’m asking for clarification. I’m being quiet. Just last week, I did a meeting with a gentleman that is really struggling with a decision. And this is probably his fifth or sixth meeting, which is very high in number for my typical client to take action on. So I just let him ask a question.

[06:26] I answered it and then I sat there in silence. And sometimes it was a minute or two and then he would ask another question. I would answer it and I would sit there again in silence because we’d already had all the conversations that were needing to be had. He needed to think through it. He needed the space to think through it. My brain was on during that time because I was actively listening when he was asking his question and then I was being quiet after answering, of course, and giving him the space to think. I think today’s world is no thinking, no brain on. We just go through things willy nilly as fast as we can. And I am all for speed, but if we are not purposeful about things with our brain turned on, we can get disastrous results.

[07:28] We will think and say things when we should think and pause. We will do things. We will do things not very well because our brain isn’t on because we’re focused somewhere else. I have a spiritual teacher and they encouraged us recently to just sit. I know you like to think about Father, Mother, God, while you’re walking, Kim, but just sit because even the physical act of the walking can be a distraction. And so whatever it is and whatever space you’re operating, bringing your brain on, turning your brain on, sometimes also very necessary so that you can get exponential results. Oh, I like that. You know, I saw a recent video. A person explained, we’re going to call it hack. I don’t know a better way to explain it.

[08:28] And he said, often he sees people having a problem focusing on the task at hand or the task and they get distracted or annoyed or whatever that would be, and then they leave that task. His advice, and I thought this was pretty cool. He goes, this is what I say to do. Go sit and stare at a wall for 10 minutes. And that was, I was like, okay, I’ve heard that, but the next piece is what helped me understand it. He goes too overstimulated as people. He goes, you just pulled everything down. So when you talked with this client, you asked a question and you sat in silence, how hard was that to do? Not hard, but because it’s practiced, it’s practiced, it’s practiced, it’s practiced and no, this is not, uh, your LP record skipping since LP

[09:32] records are cool these days. Yeah. It’s because I have learned to do that over time. And so at the beginning, yes, it was hard. It was almost impossible, but it’s practiced and I know the good results that it gets. So I would say that I’m skilled at it, but it’s because of years of practice. So let’s wrap this episode with Kim’s battery brain recipe. Here are two things. What are two things that we can get the battery brain go? Good sleep and careful intake of solids and liquids. I like that earlier in the episode, you mentioned the good food is tied to our brain, so I like it really solid there for all of you listeners. These episodes aren’t just about a life insurance policy. Sure, that might be a tool, but if you have all the money in the world and

[10:36] you don’t have a mind that is quiet enough to enjoy it, it’s nothing. If you have all the money in the world and you don’t have the energy to enjoy it, it’s a thing. Got to have both. So great episode about batteries included. Thank you for listening to the Prosperity Podcast to take control of your money and have it work for you. Visit ProsperityThinkers.com.
